VICTORIA, MARCH 31st, 2011: 6 year old Cobble Hill resident Paige has been through more than most of us have to endure in a lifetime. Paige has Hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a condition that has hindered the correct development of her heart since birth. This has already left her requiring 3 open heart surgeries, and a total of 13 surgeries to date.
In December 2010, Paige received a wish from the Make-A-Wish® Foundation funded locally by VI Fitness, who raised an incredible $23,192. Her wish was to sail the high seas, on an all-expenses paid cruise to the Bahamas, aboard the Disney Wonder. Ports of call included Nassau, as well as Disney’s private island paradise, Castaway Cay. Paige chose this for her wish because she loves to swim and adores the famous Disney characters.
Mum Alisa reported “She enjoyed meeting many characters, especially Goofy. Paige wore her light up Goofy ears to meet him! She loved swimming in the warm waters and playing on the beaches in the Bahamas. She also loved the Mickey shape ice-cream bars with sprinkles and chocolate syrup. As a family, we enjoyed the amazing theatre shows and deck parties. The wish trip was a special time to celebrate Paige’s life, and be thankful for our wonderful family.”
Recently, Paige returned to VI Fitness with her twin sister and Mom Alisa, to personally thank them with a plaque of her wish to hang on their wall. She was full of energy, and offered a huge smile, and “Thank You” for making her wish come true.
About the Make-A-Wish Foundation:
The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Founded in 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona when a group of caring volunteers helped a young boy fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer, the Foundation is now the largest wish-granting charity in the world.
The BC & Yukon chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation was formed in 1983 and was the first Chapter formed outside of the United States. Since inception, the BC Chapter has made over 1,400 wishes come true for children with life-threatening medical conditions.
